In. Body. Flow.
Inspired by a Shibari life drawing class we explore the themes of being unbounded and formless.
Part of the Sonnets For The Soul collection.
This entry was inspired by observing and sketching a life drawing figure who uses Shibari in their poses. Shibari also known as “Kinbaku”, is a modern form of rope bondage which originated in Japan. The term "shibari" means "tying" and "kinbaku" means "tight binding."
In. Body. Flow
A vessel for my soul made from fragile porcelain,
Cracks forming every so easily from the pressure I create within.
Life force was designed to flow through this tunnel so effortlessly,
But evolution made me resist this as my destiny.
Distinct clusters of charged particles amalgamate from foot to head,
Swirling pools of energy, concentrated, burning with pain and dread.
The stories I narrate give this pain their pleasurable meaning,
My unconscious self thrusts it’s deeper layers towards me in a vehicle known as dreaming.
So tender, so raw, so rigid my body remains,
With the gift of life force blocked from running freely through my veins.
The ailments creep in from this self condemned saturation,
With no where to go the energy suffers from stagnation.
Like a swamp deprived of oxygen and space to accept anything new,
The body will begin to slowly rot away as the halted energy begins to spew.
Out it flows into the world around,
As we as not separate from anything and to all we are bound.
But this is not a suffering that needs to span your bodies existence,
The shackles of our condition are purely down to resistance.
Loosen your limbs, your flesh and your bones,
Let them be free to to sway, bend and swirl amidst all the unknowns.
Move freely like the wind, sea and fire,
There need be no restriction from even the tightest attire.
For we were born to be energy in motion,
The time has come to let being formless be your life’s devotion.
